February 2024

Dear Preschool Parents,

This past month the Teddy Bears welcomed the New Year with enthusiasm. They welcomed the winter season by learning how to dress for the weather by practicing how to put on their jackets.

Winter was the new season, and the children did various lessons on the winter theme. They read the book “The Mitten Tree” and learned a lesson about kindness. They painted mittens and learned symmetry.

The Teddy Bears have covered the letters L, M, N and O in January. They have learned how to tell what is alive and what is not alive. They have used the book “The Mitten” to learn about winter animals and their needs and hibernation. They also learned about nocturnal animals and discussed which animals are awake in the day and which are awake at night. This week they will be learning about ocean creatures.

For math, they counted from 1-10, practiced number recognition, played games, learned small vs. large numbers, and learned which numbers come before and after. They also used manipulative toys to arrange them in groups of 10.

Christine, from Sulphur Creek, did a wonderful presentation bringing four of her animals to share with the children. They were able to see a gecko, snake, toad, and a guinea pig up close. She talked to them about each animal, and they were able to pet them and even feed the guinea pig spinach stems.

Our Jogathon was a great success. It turned out to be a sunny day and the children had a blast. All the elementary students made signs and cheered us on from their playground. The children ran and enjoyed the encouragement. We had a medal ceremony, and each child was bursting with pride when they received their medal.

This Friday evening, February 2nd, is our Parent Club meeting. The preschoolers will be presenting a song they have been learning. Please have your child in their classroom at 6:45 pm as the meeting and performance will start right at 7:00 pm in the church. Come have some cookies and visit with the other parents after the meeting!

The 100th day of school is Thursday, February 8th. There will be a school wide assembly with special activities. The Teddy Bears will present a 100th day song.

An open house for new preschoolers will be held by appointment on Saturday, February 10th. It will be by appointment only. If you know any families with preschool children, please let them know about the open house!

The Teddy Bears will celebrate Valentine’s Day with a party on Wednesday, February 14th. During the party the children will exchange Valentine cards. Your child should write their name on a Valentine for each child in the class but do not address it to any particular child. The children will pass out the cards. If you are unfamiliar with Valentine cards, we will have a sample of the cards in the classroom. There will be a signup sheet for party contributions. Full time children will still need a lunch.

There will be no school on Friday, February 16th and Monday, February 19th due to a teacher workday and the President’s Day holiday. Friday, February 23rd, will be an early dismissal for students on the 9 to 3 schedule to accommodate parent teacher conferences.

We have seen wonderful growth and development in the children this year. Much of it is due to the continual support and enthusiasm we receive from you parents.
